Worldview at the Abbey November 2015 Newsletter
What are we holding on to? What are we fighting for?
In The Lord of the Rings, two main characters discuss why they’re
pressing forward when defeat is an ever present threat. Why do they continue?
Why don’t they give up and turn around? They are holding onto the thought that
there is still some good in the world. What am I holding on to? Why do I
continue working with students at the Abbey when defeat is an ever present
threat? I am holding onto the fact that the Truth sets people free and Jesus is
victorious. Here at the Abbey, we preach Truth and Grace. We preach Jesus
Christ and how He is Lord over every aspect of reality.
This semester the
students have grown as leaders from giving museum tours to evangelizing in the
streets of Canon City. When a student goes to class, they are expected to
present ideas and back those ideas with reason. Our classes are rarely quiet.
The sound of students discussing ideas presented by Plato, Machiavelli, C.S.
Lewis, etc. fills the air. Our desire is for our students to integrate the
knowledge they are learning into their lives—for the Truth to set them free.
Freedom is what we are fighting for.
